You could say that Sondra Leslie had a good weekend at the track this past weekend. You could also say that all the hard work and effort her and her team have put in finally came together beautifully at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing in Joliet, IL over the weekend. Both would be absolutely correct.

Sondra has been stirring up the Limited Street ranks ever since debuting her Coyote-Swapped and Vortech V-2 H/D Ti Supercharged 1985 Fox Body earlier this year. It was obvious since day 1 that Sondra was gunning for the top of Limited Street when she was one of the first in the class to break into the 8's on her very first outing with the car. Leslie continued to up the ante from there, getting faster and faster, setting both the Low E.T. and Top Speed Records for the class along the way.

Focused on avenging her runner-up finish from Ohio, Sondra came out strong in Joliet with a 8.620 @ 160.16 mph in qualifying, which put her in the #1 spot going into eliminations. In the 1st Round, even with a bye run, Leslie continued to turn it up, tripping the lights at 8.588 @ 160.10 mph. Sondra defeated Jay Misener in Round 2, and then in Round 3, proceeded to reset the class E.T and Top Speed records (again) in commanding fashion with a blistering 8.575 E.T. @ 160.18 mph to put her directly into the finals to face Michael Ciborowski.

Although Ciborowski was able to defeat Leslie in Ohio, a repeat was not meant to be. Leslie's "on fire" performance the rest of the weekend must have put the fear into Ciborowski, as he jumped early in the final race. The attempted holeshot resulted in a red light and an automatic win for Leslie, who still turned in a 8.583 @ 147.78 run that would likely have earned her the win regardless.

With the win, Sondra also earned herself one of the coveted Diamond Tree Super Bowl Rings, which Leslie says is for her parents, John and Barb Leslie, who have helped her so much along the way.

Congratulations to Sondra Leslie, and we look forward to more amazing racing action at the World Finals in September!
